Sunday, August 17, 2008 – Calvary Church & a yummy dinner with a new friend [NYC]

Tonight was my last time at church for the next 3 1/2 months and I have to say I got a little emotional as I took communion and my pastor said a special blessing over me. I was also asked to give my little [G3] talk to the Sunday evening congregation and once again I was a little nervous. Of course I was fine once I started talking but I guess it’s the pre-performance jitters that always get me. As the service was ending and we were saying our final prayer together shivers ran up my spine. I don’t think this prayer had ever rang so true to me until that moment,..

“Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us as living members of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, and you have fed us with spiritual food in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood. Send us now into the world in peace, and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you with gladness and singleness of heart; through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

After church I met Shannon, the cousin of one of my really good friend’s in Texas. We went to dinner in the East Village at a cute little Italian restaurant, Cacio e Pepe, and then to Veniero’s for cheesecake. I had such a lovely time getting to know her and see her passion for non-profit and volunteer work, as well as traveling. We definitely have quite a bit in common in regards to those things. Also, a week or so ago she also put me in touch with one of her friend’s that lived in Ghana for 8 months and he has been a great resource of information for me. Funny how at that time I was all up in arms about Ghana…my visa issues, not having a secure living arrangement yet, etc., and then here comes Shannon, someone who I’ve never met, introducing me via cyberspace to one of friends who lived there! Once again it’s another reminder that things DO always work out and the connections are always made at just the right time. Just when I think I’m losing hope God comes in at the last minute to give me a small ray of sunshine so I can continue my journey through the tunnel of the unknown. What a blessing!
