Wednesday, November 19, 2008 – compiling information for the President-Elect article [Tbilisi, Georgia]

I spent most of the morning and early afternoon researching online articles about what Georgians are saying about America’s new President-Elect Barak Obama, as well as sorting through all the emails I received from the questionnaire I sent out to all of my contacts. I was overwhelmed with the amount of people that responded! I had no idea it would stir up so much passion and I was happy to see both FOR and AGAINST opinions for Obama so that my article could express both sides of opinion. So thank you again to those who responded! It has been a tremendous help.

When I left the Beteli Center I went with Kathy (my American friend whose husband works at the Embassy) to the Bible Society. She wanted to buy a Georgian Children’s Bible for the daughter of one of her Georgian friends. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I thought it would be at least a medium size retail shop but it was just the opposite. It is situated between two casinos (yes, casinos are everywhere here in Tbilisi) and is a very small, dark and extremely cold room, just a bit bigger than a walk in closet. They had all sort of Bibles…Georgian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Protestant, and even a few in English. I’ve never been inside of the Bible Society in NYC but have walked by several times. It is a HUGE and architecturally pleasing building, and has 24 hour security because it is also a museum that houses very old and rare Bibles. I think I’ll have to finally check it out once I’m back in NYC!
